Choosing the right home care services can be overwhelming, especially with so many options available. At Visiting Nurse Association of Florida, we offer a wide range of home care services designed to meet the specific needs of each patient. Understanding the three main types of home care can help individuals and families make informed decisions about their care options.

By offering all three types of home care, we make sure that our patients have access to the appropriate level of support at every stage. Whether you or a loved one need assistance with daily tasks now, skilled nursing care in the future, or a transition from home health to long-term care, we are here to provide continuous and reliable care.

Personal Care
Personal care services support individuals with daily tasks that promote independence and safety. These services are ideal for those who need extra help with everyday activities but do not require medical attention. Assistance may include:

  • Bathing, dressing, and grooming
  • Meal preparation and light housekeeping
  • Transportation to appointments or errands
  • Medication reminders
  • Emotional support and companionship

This type of care is especially helpful for seniors, individuals with disabilities, or those recovering from an illness who need extra assistance to maintain their routines. Having access to these services early on can make future transitions to more advanced care smoother and less stressful.

Private Duty Nursing
For those who require more advanced medical care, VNA of Florida specializes in private duty nursing, providing skilled, hands-on care in the comfort of home. We serve patients of all ages, from pediatrics through geriatrics, with care tailored to individual needs. Our highly trained nurses deliver compassionate care to individuals with chronic illnesses, complex medical needs, serious injuries, and more. Our private duty nursing services include:

  • Medication administration and monitoring
  • Ongoing disease management
  • Serious injury care
  • Wound care and pain management
  • Monitor overall medical status

Unlike personal care services, private duty nursing is designed for patients who require continuous one-on-one care to manage their health and daily needs safely at home, including both medical and non-medical support. With decades of experience, VNA of Florida ensures that patients receive the highest level of skilled care from compassionate professionals. Private duty care may include both medical and non-medical assistance, but it is typically paid for privately or through long-term care insurance, rather than Medicare. However, for pediatric patients, we also accept some Medicaid plans.

Home Health Care
Home health care is a short-term, physician-directed service focused on recovery and rehabilitation following an illness, injury, or hospital stay. These services are often covered by Medicare and other insurance providers and can include:

  • Skilled nursing care
  • Physical, occupational, and speech therapy
  • Post-surgical recovery support
  • Chronic disease management
  • Medical social work services

This type of care focuses on helping patients regain their strength, manage health conditions, and recover safely at home with the support of skilled professionals. It also plays an important role in preventing hospital readmissions (read our blog here to learn more) by ensuring patients receive the follow-up care they need from the comfort of home.

Choosing the Right Care for Your Needs
At VNA of Florida, we provide all three types of care, ensuring that each patient receives the level of support they need to live safely and comfortably at home. For those who require a higher level of care beyond home services, Grand Oaks offers assisted living options that provide a safe and supportive environment. Grand Oaks provides personalized care, comfort, and a sense of community, ensuring residents receive the support they need while maintaining their independence.
