To gain a better understanding of the quality of health care professionals we employ, it’s important to first understand the differences between nurse registries and home health agencies.

VNA of Florida is a Medicare-certified, home health agency. Both home health agencies and nurse registries provide home health care services. However, home health agencies are required by Florida law to employ their caregivers, whereas nurse registries use independent contractors.

Why is this important?

Because nurse registries do not have employees, they do not carry workers compensation insurance, nor do they carry liability or malpractice Insurance. By law, registries are not permitted to monitor, supervise, manage or train the aides, therapists, or nurses that are contracted to work for them. Independent contractors working for nurse registries are also not bonded for criminal acts, such as theft.

Because VNA of Florida is a home health agency, our caregivers are VNA employees. All our nurses, therapists, and aides must be licensed or certified, pass a drug screening, and pass a Level II background check prior to being hired. Our caregivers are also covered by our workers compensation insurance.
